Kathy Warden was elected as chair, chief executive officer, and president of the aerospace and defense technology company Northrop Grumman in 2019. She had joined the board of directors the year before. She sits on the board of directors at Merck & Co., the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Board, and the OneTen Advisory Board, among other boards, advisory groups, and committees. In 2023, Northrop Grumman saw $39.3 billion in sales and had a record backlog of $83 billion. Some 30% of the company’s sales are from the B-21, the F-35, and the Sentinel, each at 10%. In January, the company reported a $1.56 billion charge (pretax) on the B-21; Warden said during the year that the company was likely to face losses during production.
