Sandy Ran Xu is the first woman CEO, and just the third person ever to lead JD.com, the Chinese e-commerce giant founded in 1998. Xu joined JD in 2018, after nearly 20 years at PwC in the U.S. and China. JD.com reported $153 billion in revenue in 2023, a slight drop from the year before, yet enough to lift the company to No. 47 on this year’s Global 500. Still, the company is pressured by a slower-than-hoped consumption recovery and stiff competition from rivals like PDD Holdings. That’s pushed Xu to shake up the ranks of the company, taking direct control of its core e-commerce division just days after 2023’s Singles’ Day sales.
