MSc Petroleum, Energy Economics and Finance | The University of Aberdeen #Finance

ambition in life would be making a significant impact on the energy industry being either in UK or in Russia or anywhere in the world really before I came to Aberdeen I studied in Moscow at Goodkin Russian State University of oil and gas I was doing my specialist degree in oil and gas field

development before coming to do my postgraduate degree I studied a BSC Bachelor of Science degree in banking and Finance and I worked in a bank for four years as a fund

manager when you mentioned the course is really long so people are like what are you studying is that petroleum is that Energy Economics is it Finance but the fact that it

puts all the causes together it’s good during my peak program I’ve been told by world-class experts in the energy industry I’m trained as an economist I got a PhD from the University of Hamburg before I came to everything I was in Munich I was doing research and I was also

teaching in areas such as energy economics and by mental economics and Resource Economics and the things that interests me most are energy related commodity prices and Markets in particular

the crude oil market but also the European carbon market which is it’s a very important environmental policy instrument one of the reasons why this program is distinct is Alex Kemp professor kemppi he’s a world renowned researcher we have Alexander Kemp who has been teaching for the

past 50 years and I believe he has a wealth of experience to share with us from industry and academia he basically knows everything about the oil industry he is teaching two modules and he’s also supervising dissertations his door is also open so there is a chance to to interact with this

with his world renowned researcher and teacher I chose represent for obvious reasons Aberdeen being the oil and gas Capital of Europe and of course there are very many representatives of leading oil and gas industry companies here we do have very strong links with the energy

industry and this program so firstly the program has been designed using feedback from the industry and then throughout the program we have various opportunities to interact with the with the industry so we have a visitor speaker series so representatives of Kennedy firms come and speak to you and

in addition to this we have work best dissertation projects as my dissertation I’m doing a work based project with the renewables UK company I have definitely made some useful contacts professional contacts during the program and of course I have managed to go to the UK oil and gas conference

in the past we had more than 25 different nationalities even though the number of students is only between 30 and 40 I think there’s every continent on the program and they bring onboard their experiences and exposures and we are able to learn from each other different cultures different

experiences and move forward as a team I know that in some cases the the students refer to their class themselves as the United Nations class in 20 years time I see myself becoming the female version of Spencer deal he’s the chief group economist for British Petroleum and I read about him a

lot I listen to him and I think he’s doing a good job so I don’t mind being like him I came from Ghana to Aberdeen to receive an education but I believe that I have received so much more given that Ghana discovered oil in the year 2007 and we started production in 2010 there are not too

many people who have experienced and have studied on their sector all this information I have gathered will help me work and improve the status of Ghana I’ve received way more than an education the enlightenment the experience would live with me for a very long time you
