Acciona seeks ESG financing – LatinFinance #NewsUnitedStates

Spanish infrastructure firm Acciona requested up to $600 million in green and sustainability-linked funds from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector division of the World Bank Group, to fund projects in Brazil and Peru.

The proposed funding package would include an A loan for $250 million from IFC’s own account and a parallel B loan for $350 million mobilized from other lenders, according to the multilateral bank’s website. IFC does not specify which of the proposed loans is green and which is a sustainability linked.

The Spanish firm would use $414 million of the proceeds for the construction of a new line for the São Paulo metro in Brazil along with three power transmission lines in Peru. The remaining $186 million would got to sustainable infrastructure projects.

Acciona was awarded a contract to build the metro line 6 in São Paulo in 2020. It secured a BRL6.9 billion ($1.25 billion) financing deal from local development bank BNDES in August last year to develop the project, according to the firm’s website.

The project is expected to be completed in October 2026, IFC says.

In Peru, Acciona won a 30-year contract to design, build, finance and operate the Reque-Nueva Carhuaquero power lines and substations, together with the Nueva Tumbes substation and power line, in 2022. It went on to land a 30-year contract to build the Ica Poroma transmission line and substation in May last year.
