Coinbase unveiled its latest tool, promising to bridge artificial intelligence with cryptocurrency through new developer capabilities. Lincoln Murr, the Coinbase developer behind this project, announced that the new platform, “Based Agent,” is a tool that allows developers to create AI-powered crypto agents in less than three minutes.
CEO Brian Armstrong amplified the announcement, showcasing the platform’s ability for rapid deployment of AI agents with crypto wallets and full blockchain capabilities.
The tool is built on Base, the layer-2 network of Coinbase, and runs on powerful technologies like OpenAI with a development environment by Replit. All that’s needed from a developer is to lock in API keys from Coinbase and OpenAI, along with a Replit template, to start building customized AI agents that can execute complex crypto operations.
According to Murr, the tool is not only confined to Coinbase’s Base network but is also supported on other significant blockchains like Ethereum, Polygon and Arbitrum.
This launch is in line with Coinbase’s extended vision of an “Agentic Web,” where AI-driven autonomous agents powered by blockchain would enable economic activity across the digital sphere.
