Canadian dollar weakens, benchmark yield slips #CanadaFinance

The Canadian dollar weakened against the greenback on Tuesday, and the yield on benchmark government debt slipped.

The loonie was trading 1% lower at C$1.4447 to the greenback, or 69.22 U.S. cents, after trading in a range of 1.429 to 1.4515.

Canadian government 10-year bond yields fell 5.6 basis points to 3.222%. The yield on similar U.S. government benchmark debt fell to 4.5582%.

U.S. February crude futures fell $2.39 to $75.49 a barrel on Tuesday.

Canada’s annual inflation rate eased to 1.8% in December, down from 1.9% in November, Statistics Canada said. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected an annual rate of 1.9%
