Residents voice concerns over crypto facility #CriptoNews

SHARP COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) – Residents are voicing their concerns about a possibly noisy new neighbor.

The Cave City crypto-mining facility is not making noise right now, but residents near the future site are worried about how it will affect them.

Fusion Energy Grid LLC broke ground on a crypto facility, and residents will voice their concerns in a meeting on Tuesday.

David Matthewson, owner of D & S Trailer, works down the road from the future facility. He and his neighbors have talked about the new neighbor coming to town.

“The biggest concern is the noise. I think the noise is supposed to be overwhelming, as far as everyone has talked about. Noise, vibration, the ground, stuff like that,” said Matthewson.

But Matthewson said the noise isn’t the only concern his neighbors have.

“Heard people asking about the power grid, if it’s gonna hit the water system, if it’s gonna lose water pressure. I think everything has already been gone through and checked out,” he said.

The facility itself isn’t the only concern.

Matthewson and other neighbors are worried about how it will affect their homes and businesses.

“When they put that in there and it halves the value of our property – they need to compensate us or something,” he said.

The long-term future was also something on Matthewson’s mind, such as a possible annexation from Cave City.

“I think they can compensate us or something like that as far as taxes,” he said.

More than anything, Matthewson said he wishes residents’ voices had been heard before the building equipment came in.

“We can stand in front of the driveway until we’re blue in the face, but they’re just going to go ahead and build it anyway,” he said.

Residents in the area expressed that they want more meetings about the facility in the future.
