The 134 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological, also known as the 134 Ecological Task Force (ETF), orchestrated a significant mass plantation drive on Tuesday, culminating its Platinum Jubilee Year (1949-2024) celebrations and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, according to a press release by PRO Defence, Guwahati. The Territorial Army (TA), a prestigious military reserve force, plays a crucial role in providing operational and logistical support to the Indian Armed Forces (IAF) and assisting during natural calamities and emergencies.
Continuing its celebratory events, the 134 ETF organized an awareness program and mass plantation drive, as per the release. This initiative took place in the villages of Gamani, Rihajuli, and Chattai Garobasti located in the Sonitpur district.
Established in 2007 to address rampant deforestation in the Sonitpur District of Assam, the 134 ETF has been pivotal in restoring the region’s fragile ecological balance. Their efforts have been significant in the environmental conservation of the Sonitpur and Biswanath districts, the release stated.
Commemorating the Platinum Jubilee and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, the 134 ETF executed a large-scale plantation drive, planting 10,000 fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees in local villages. This drive saw active participation from villagers in Gamani, Rihajuli, and Chattai Garobasti, aiming to enhance the green cover, as mentioned in the release.
At the event, ETF personnel engaged with community members and children, underscoring the importance of protecting ecosystems, particularly vulnerable and endangered species of flora and fauna. They stressed that successful ecological missions require the active and wholehearted involvement of the local community. The enthusiasm shown by the children was particularly inspiring.
This mass plantation drive concluded a series of events planned for the Platinum Jubilee Year, aiming to foster environmental awareness and sustainability.
