German Finance Minister Christian Lindner defended the sale of shares in Commerzbank to Unicredit by the federal government. “I have always made it clear politically that the state cannot have a long-term stake in a private bank. The inter-ministerial steering committee makes specific decisions on the sale and the procedure, and European law prohibits discrimination against a bidder. We will now discuss how to proceed in the federal government,” Lindner said.
