While Germany is in debt “up to its throat” trying to fight the global economic crisis, its finance minister has been seen filling out a lottery ticket, for the premium of 35 million euros.
Both the serious business newspaper “Handelsblat” and the large-circulation German daily “Bild” on Friday published on their front pages the photograph of Peer Steinbrueck filling out a lottery ticket at a table in the German parliament (Bundestag). The MPs around the minister are debating the ways to fight against poverty, “Handelsblat” claims.
In the background of the ticket he fills out is an advertisement for his dream pension, relaxing on a sandy beach under the shade of a palm tree.
The prize of 35 million euros is the third largest in the history of the German lottery.
