The Department of Finance (DOF) manages the government’s financial resources. Its tasks include policy formulation, income generation, resource mobilization, debt management, and financial market growth. It also maintains the pursuit of critical duties, such as revenue generation, resource mobilization, debt management, and financial market expansion.
It was established in 1897 under Emilio Aguinaldo, predating the country’s independence and the First Philippine Republic. Since then, the DOF has undergone numerous structural and functional changes.
The department is led by the Secretary of Finance, who is appointed by the President and confirmed by Congress through the Commission on Appointments.
