Alamance-Burlington School System appoints new Chief Finance Officer

LANEY THANK YOU. NORTH SURRY HIGH SCHOOL WAS ON LOCKDOWN TODAY AFTER REPORTS OF A WEAPON BEING ON CAMPUS. THE SURRY COUNTY CHIEF DEPUTY SAYS ANONYMOUS TIPS WERE SUBMITTED TO THE SCHOOL JUST BEFORE 10:00 THIS MORNING. THE SCHOOL’S PRINCIPAL PLACED THE SCHOOL INTO A TEMPORARY LOCKDOWN. SURRY COUNTY OFFICIALS SAY THE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER NOTIFIED HIS TEAM FOR HELP. IN ADDITION TO MOUNT AIRY POLICE AND THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE HIGHWAY PATROL. OFFICIALS SAY THEY ARE CONFIDENT THERE WAS NO WEAPON ON CAMPUS, AND THEY SAY THAT THESE TIPS ARE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. WE ISOLATED THAT AREA IMMEDIATELY AND FROM THAT POINT JUST BEGAN OUR INVESTIGATION TO INTO WHETHER OR NOT THEY ACTUALLY WAS A WEAPON OR NOT. THIS SITUATION IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION TONIGHT BY THE SURRY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE. AND IN STOKES COUNTY, DEPUTIES ARE INVESTIGATING AFTER A THREAT WAS MADE AGAINST WEST STOKES HIGH SCHOOL. INVESTIGATORS SAY A PARENT FOUND IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA OVER THE WEEKEND AND CONTACTED THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE. WE’RE TOLD SCHOOL OFFICIALS WERE ALSO NOTIFIED OVER THE WEEKEND. THE SCHOOL SENT OUT EXTRA OFFICERS AS A PRECAUTION IN GUILFORD COUNTY, FOUR CHILDREN WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER A CRASH INVOLVING A SCHOOL BUS AND A VAN. IT HAPPENED NEAR HUFFINE MILL AND FLEMING FIELD ROADS AROUND 320 THIS AFTERNOON. OFFICIALS SAY AN AFTER SCHOOL VAN WAS CARRYING FOUR CHILDREN BEFORE IT CRASHED. WE’RE TOLD THIS CRASH DID NOT INVOLVE ANY STUDENTS FROM GUILFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS. AND THE BUS YOU SEE THERE ISN’T FROM THEIR DISTRICT EITHER. TWO OF THE CHILDREN WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE OTHER TWO HAVE MINOR INJURIES. TONIGHT, WHAT LED TO THAT CRASH IS STILL UNKNOWN. WINSTON-SALEM POLICE CONFIRMING ARRESTS HAVE BEEN MADE IN CONNECTION TO RECKLESS DRIVING CASES INVOLVING ATVS. A WOMAN SAYS SHE WAS DRIVING TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY WHEN AN ATV SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF HER VAN. HER DAUGHTER, WITH CEREBRAL PALSY, WAS IN THE BACK SEAT. SHE TOLD WXII 12 JOSHUA DAVIS ABOUT A TERRIFYING INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED JUST DAYS AGO. THIS JUST WENT SHOOTING UP IN IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR. MARCY SAYS WHEN SHE GOT OUT TO LOOK FOR WHO HIT HER, SHE SAW THE ATV, BUT NO ONE WAS THERE. BUT JUST MOMENTS LATER, SHE FOUND THE ATV DRIVER HURT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. HE KEPT TRYING TO STAND UP AND THEN FALLING OVER, STANDING UP, FALLING OVER WHILE HE WAS IN BETWEEN OUR CARS. SHORTLY AFTER WINSTON-SALEM POLICE AND AN AMBULANCE ARRIVED. POLICE SAY THEY’VE ARRESTED SEVERAL PEOPLE INVOLVED IN INCIDENTS LIKE THIS ONE, AND HAVE ISSUED A CITATION TO THE ATV DRIVER IN THIS CASE, BRUNO SAYS SHE’S UPSET AT WHAT SHE’S CALLING RECKLESS BEHAVIOR. IT’S REALLY DANGEROUS TO THEM. AND IT’S REALLY DANGEROUS TO EVERYBODY AROUND THEM. AND SHE SAYS SHE AND HER DAUGHTER WERE LUCKY. OUR VAN IS BIG. IT’S BUILT LIKE A TANK. IF WE WERE IN A SMALLER CAR OR IF I HAD MY TWO YOUNGER KIDS IN THE VERY BACK SEAT, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY. THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SOMEBODY DEAD. THAT WAS JOSHUA DAVIS REPORTING. TONIGHT, INVESTIGATORS SAY COLLABORATION WITHIN THE COMMUNITY IS CRUCIAL. INFORMATION LIKE NAMES, LOCATIONS WHERE RIDERS MEET OR BUY GAS CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN PREVENTING THESE EVENTS FROM HAPPENING. AS YOU FINALIZE YOUR PLANS FOR THE UPCOMING LABOR DAY HOLIDAY, EXPECT TO SEE MORE POLICE ON THE ROADS, THE GOVERNOR’S HIGHWAY SAFETY PROGRAM’S ANNUAL LABOR DAY BOOZE IT AND LOSE IT CAMPAIGN IS NOW UNDERWAY ACROSS ALL OF NORTH CAROLINA’S 100 COUNTIES. THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND REMAINS ONE OF THE DEADLIEST TIMES FOR ALCOHOL AND DRUG RELATED TRAFFIC DEATHS. TWO COMMITMENT 2024 NOW, IT’S BEEN A LITTLE MORE THAN FIVE WEEKS SINCE PRESIDENT BIDEN DROPPED OUT, AND NOW ANALYSTS AT A PROMINENT NONPARTISAN NEWSLETTER ARE ADJUSTING THEIR RATINGS ON OUR TWO BIGGEST RACES. THE COOK POLITICAL REPORT HAS SHIFTED. NORTH CAROLINA FROM LEAN REPUBLICAN TO TOSS UP IN ITS ELECTORAL COLLEGE RATINGS. COOK IS THE LATEST GROUP TO IDENTIFY NORTH CAROLINA AS ONE OF THE TOP TIER SWING STATES THIS CYCLE, ALONG WITH PENNSYLVANIA, GEORGIA, MICHIGAN, WISCONSIN, ARIZONA AND NEVADA. THESE SEVEN STATES ARE WORTH 93 ELECTORAL VOTES AND WILL LIKELY DETERMINE WHO WINS THE PRESIDENCY. ADDITIONALLY, COOK SAYS, OUR GOVERNOR’S RACE HAS SHIFTED FROM TOSS UP TO LEAN. DEMOCRAT JESSICA TAYLOR SAYS IT’S ALL ABOUT THE CHANGE AT THE TOP OF THE TICKET. THE SIGNS THAT TRUMP HAS DONE IS DOING WORSE IN NORTH CAROLINA. IT’S JUST THAT BIDEN WAS SO MUCH UNDERPERFORMING. THERE. AND, YOU KNOW, YOU LOOK AT WHERE SHE’S BEEN ABLE TO ENGAGE VOTERS. AND I THINK BLACK VOTERS AND BLACK WOMEN IN PARTICULAR OF HARRIS HAS THE ABILITY TO ENERGIZE THAT. I THINK THAT IS SORT OF SOME OF THE CHANGE THAT WE ARE SEEING WITH THIS ENTHUSIASM SHIFT. IT CERTAINLY HELPING STEIN AND HE’S JUST BEEN ABLE T
