As blockchain technology continues to garner attention worldwide, the European Blockchain Convention (EBC) is set to bring together key industry figures and policymakers in Barcelona, Spain, from September 25 to 26, 2024. This year marks the event’s tenth edition, a significant milestone as interest in crypto and digital assets peaks amid regulatory advancements and mainstream adoption.
The event will feature a range of discussions driven by two major developments: the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework and the approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States. These regulatory shifts are widely viewed as pivotal steps towards integrating blockchain technology into the global financial system, leading to increased institutional adoption.
Daniel Salmerón, co-founder of the European Blockchain Convention, emphasised the importance of these developments:
“The EU’s MiCA framework and the US’s approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs represent a positive shift in regulation as blockchain becomes more mainstream. This year’s event will set the stage for global leaders to come together and shape new standards for the industry.”
Covering a diverse range of topics, the event aims to explore key areas of interest that have seen rapid growth, including decentralised finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), web3 gaming, privacy, security, and artificial intelligence. EBC’s internal research has shown a 54% increase in global interest in blockchain in 2024, the largest year-on-year rise since the convention began in 2018.
The convention fosters in-depth debates that go beyond theoretical concepts, encouraging participants to find actionable solutions and set tangible blockchain industry standards.
Victoria Gago, co-founder of EBC, highlighted the importance of fostering a mix of voices:
“Our mission has always been to create a platform that bridges gaps and fosters meaningful dialogue. From web3 innovators to representatives of traditional financial institutions, we believe that the industry moves forward when we engage in hard conversations and challenge our own beliefs.”

In addition to the professional agenda, the event will offer a range of social activities, including a beach party, wine tasting, and opportunities to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Barcelona. Attendees will also be in the city during the prestigious Louis Vuitton America’s Cup sailing competition, adding a unique cultural element to their experience.
