Financial Insights That Matter
New Delhi: Finance ministry on Monday (May 5) denied media reports that India has asked Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Italian government to cut funding to Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack.
In a post on X tagging an ANI report, the ministry stated, “It is clarified this news is incorrect and has no basis in fact.”
The ANI article in question had claimed, citing unnamed sources, that India urged Italy to halt financing to Pakistan during a meeting between Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her Italian counterpart Giancarlo Giorgetti.
Another ANI report claimed Sitharaman made a similar demand to ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa during their meeting on Monday.
The finance ministry’s post included a screenshot of this second article and dismissed both claims.
The reports were datelined from Milan, where Sitharaman was attending the 58th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors.
