TOKYO: Japanese Finance Minister KATO Katsunobu said Friday that he will visit Washington on Oct. 23-27.
In the U.S. capital, he will attend annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, and a meeting of finance ministers and central bank chiefs of the Group of 20 advanced and emerging economies.
Kato, a member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, is set to run in the Oct. 27 general election for the House of Representatives, the all-important lower chamber of Japan’s parliament.
“In addition to fulfilling my official duties, I plan to visit my constituency (for my campaign activities) and other places to give stump speeches (for fellow candidates in the Lower House election) while I am in Japan,” he said at a press conference.
