The Post Office is encouraging individuals to get ready for their Warm Home Discount vouchers, which were available as of Monday, October 14.
The call to action comes as data from the Post Office reveals that over £3million worth of these vouchers went unclaimed last year and comes in the wake of the recent decision to effectively scrap the Winter Fuel Payment for millions of pensioners.
The Warm Home Discount scheme gives families a one-off £150 discount on electricity bills, crucial support as energy costs continue to soar.
Vouchers from energy providers will be provided to eligible households which can then be redeemed at any Post Office branch.
A total of 300,000 vouchers vouchers were processed by post office branches last year with 190,000 issued in October and November alone.
Eligible households with electric key meters (prepay) will receive letters containing vouchers from the participating providers, including British Gas, EDF, EON Next, Green OVO and Scottish Power.
In a bid to further support customers, the Post Office is planning 40 energy advice drop-in events at selected branches this winter, in collaboration with charities and advice organisations.
Households can reach out to their energy supplier for reissuance if they lose the vouchers they have been sent to ensure that eligible customers do not miss out.
Kevin Elson, Postmaster at Bache Post Office, said: “We know many people are worried about the cost of their energy bills as the colder weather starts to set in. £150 can make a big difference, especially to people who are on pay-as-you-go meter.
“It’s really important that people are able to access the financial support schemes that are available, such as the Warm Homes Discount. That’s why postmasters, like me, and our teams stand ready to help and ensure that people can easily redeem their vouchers.”
Scottish residents who think they may qualify should directly contact their energy supplier for more details.
For those seeking help or clarification about their eligibility, the Warm Home Discount Helpline is accessible at 0800 030 9322 to offer assistance.
