‎The Head of the Presidential Council Mohammed Menfi discussed on Monday with a delegation from the United Kingdom (UK) the files of public finance and oil production.

This came during Menfi’s reception in Tripoli of the Permanent Undersecretary of the British Foreign Office Philip Barton, the UK Ambassador to Libya Martin Longden, and their accompanying delegation.

A statement from Menfi’s office said that the meeting discussed political, economic and security files and emphasized their close connection and integration.

The meeting also discussed ways to enhance transparency and oversight of the Central Bank of Libya and the National Oil Corporation, and their independent technical role, which requires finding a unified mechanism to prepare unified financial arrangements to ensure the achievement of a unified budget that restores the technical role of economic institutions away from politics.

Libyan oil production returned to its normal rates before the Central Bank of Libya crisis, following the reopening of fields and facilities, against the backdrop of reaching an agreement between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to appoint a new governor for the Central Bank.

The issue of appointing the Central Bank’s Board of Directors is still under discussion among the concerned parties, while the Presidential Council reiterates the need for its participation in consultations to select members.
