“Private equity M&A activity continues to pick up as sponsors capitalize on improving market conditions,” said Pillsbury firm Chair David Dekker. “Robby offers our roster of PE and corporate clients deep financing experience across the capital stack.”

Stein’s work involves a wide array of industries in the United States and internationally.  He has extensive experience representing high-caliber funds’ clients, early-stage companies, financial institutions, and other market participants in connection with the structuring, negotiation, and documentation of a wide range of complex and routine debt financing matters.

“Robby brings additional depth to our Bank & Leveraged Finance team, arriving at a time when sponsor-driven financing and refinancing activity is poised to grow,” said Mark Lessard, Global Head of Pillsbury’s Finance & Restructuring practice. “He has accretive touchpoints within the asset management industry and significant experience in high-demand areas, working with both lenders and borrowers on bilateral and syndicated financings, as well digital assets, fund finance and distressed credits.”

“I am thrilled to join Pillsbury and contribute to the firm’s strategic growth in the private equity space,” Stein said. “Throughout my career, I have partnered with leading firms to build and enhance their PE capabilities, and I am eager to bring that experience to bear at Pillsbury. In addition to its strong M&A and bank finance practices and a growing portfolio of private equity and other fund clients, Pillsbury’s collaborative culture, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to client service are especially appealing to me and provide the ideal foundation for creating a truly differentiated private equity platform.”

Stein’s arrival follows on that of a number of other noteworthy New York partner hires, with M&A and Private Equity partners Adam Rachlis and Lillian Kim, restructuring partner Michael Burke and Tax partner Larry Sannicandro all joining the office in the past 12 months. Other notable transactional lawyers added by the firm recently include Emerging Companies & Venture Capital partner Andy Smetana and counsel Margarita Kelrikh in Texas; leading cross-border transactional partner Jia Yan and a multidisciplinary team of corporate, investigations and disputes lawyers in China (Shanghai); and London investment funds partner Gawain Hughes.

Pillsbury’s Bank & Leveraged Finance team represents investment funds, public and private companies, commercial and investment banks, as well as finance and insurance companies in a wide variety of international and U.S. financing transactions. Our lawyers are regarded as innovators of novel financing structures, including some of the first amend-and-extend and hybrid amend-and-extend/forward-start facilities, and the development of multi-tranche capital debt facilities.
